Celebrate Holy Week and Easter at Saint Saviours
Holy Week
In Holy Week we live through the last week in the earthly life of Jesus.
The services present the main events of that week.
Palm Sunday: 5th April at 10.45am
A procession recalls the day when Jesus entered Jerusalem and the crowds welcomed him.
The same crowds turned against Jesus and demnded that he should be crucified.
Maundy Thursday: 9th April at 7.30pm
Jesus shared a Last Supper with his disciples.
He broke the bread (This is my body) and shared the wine cup (This is my blood).
After washing their feet, as a sign of service,
he gave his disciples a new commandment: 'Love one another', says Jesus, 'as I have loved you'
Good Friday: 10th April at 2.00pm
In a stark and empty building we remember crucifixion and burial of Jesus.
Jesus gave everything of himself for the world,
even reaching out in forgiveness to those who were responsible for his death.
Holy Saturday: 11th April at 7.30pm
The day begins in gloom, because Jesus is dead.
At the end of the day Jesus opens the tomb.
In the evening we celebrate a service of new life, new light, new hope.
Easter Sunday 12th April at 11.00am
The Family Mass at on Easter Sunday is full of colour, light, joy (and eggs - the sign of life!)
There is an opportunity for everyone who has been baptised to recommit themselves
as they remake the promises of their baptism.
A promise runs through Holy Week and Easter.
It was a promise Jesus made:
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
For God sent the Son into the world,
not to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
