Welcome
Why not join us in our prayer each day in Advent?
You can download the booklet from here
This booklet is an act of prayer to lead us through the season of Advent.
For each day, as we wait to celebrate the birth of Jesus, there is a psalm, a short scripture reading and a prayer.
Each days prayer begins with a short response, asking the Lord’s help and presence. A psalm is a traditional part of morning and evening prayer, helping us to reflect on the history of God’s dealings with his people. A short scripture reading speaks to us today, and a prayer asks God to help us look and work for His Kingdom.
I hope that this simple daily prayer will be used across the two parishes of Brown Edge and Smallthorne, and beyond, as a prayer for mission and growth.
How to use this prayer book
If you are alone you will want to set aside a few minutes each day.
Begin with the response, read the psalm and scripture reading.
You may want to include the Lord’s Prayer before the final prayer.
If you are with others one person will be the leader, beginning the opening response and leading the psalms.
The traditional way to say psalms is to take turns with the verses.
A second person might read the scripture reading,
finishing in the traditional way with ‘This is the word of the Lord’
The leader will begin the Lord’s prayer, and say the final prayer.
Don’t get too hot and bothered about how to use this prayer book.
Just pray, let God do the rest.
